Please post your comments on teaching, learning, assessment methods, discussion forum, feedback and resources used in one of the courses in Computer Science which you witnessed today.

  1. The discussion that we had on Saturday was very good. I specially liked the 'feedback from examination'. It gives immediate feedback to Students as well as the instructor. Is it done for all courses or was it only for that course? Can you provide more information on any of the Programming paper (For example Java/C) with regards to their classRoom teaching and Lab?
In your previous blog of Post Graduate course in Informatics you have given the grade scheme. If a student does not get grade pass, then does he repeat the course?

    Thank you Sir,

    With regards,
    Suchitra

  2. Dear Sir,
The interactive session we had on Saturday was good except for the technical problems we had for the first one and half hour. From the assignments we saw, I felt that the students are tested for their knowledge in-depth in the subject.
Regarding, their labs you said that there is no much difference between theirs and ours. How do they maintain the labs? How do they handle issues like virus etc on their network? Are there any restrictions for staff/students while accessing the Internet?
Regarding the credits, in Sussex University, students are given credits for attending Classes. But, here we consider 75% attendance as prerequisite for answering the exams.
Sir, are there any credits for sports and other activities at Sussex?

    With regards.

  3. Dear Sir,

The discussion we had on Saturday was further proof that our curriculum content is on par if not better. What we lack in is the proper coordination of the support system which can help the faculty use their time in a more effective manner.
A little more insight into issues such as their annual infrastructure spending/software licensing policies/life time considered for computer hardware in the school of Computing Science etc would be welcome.

    Regards
    Ian

  5. Dear Sir,
Thank you for your demonstration. It gives us an impression that the entire teaching-learning process at Sussex University is being documented as well as maintained well. Let us hope that your journey to Sussex University brings positive changes in our teaching-learning process.

  6. Dear Suchitra,
The feedbacks on assessment are available for all courses. I will try to collect information on the paper which you have asked. If a student fails, then the School decides whether to allow for resit examination or not. If not student has to repeat the course.

  7. Dear Nagalakshmi,
The IT Services maintains the network and all computers on the campus. 'Kaspersky' antivirus is used. There are no problems. No restrictions as long as network is used for the academic purpose. There are no credits for attendance, sports or any other activites. No grace marks!!

  8. Dear Ian,
Curriculum may be on par. What about the quality of teaching, learning, assessment methods and resources used at the first year level of degree programme? I will find out on other matters which you have asked.

  9. Sir, am a little confused with your comment. Were we not appreciated by NAAC for our teaching-learning process? We surely can improve on it through better utilization of CLAAP for purposes like discussion forums, assignments, examination feedback ... but guess that would require more time in the hands of the faculty and more importantly the students. Our students sure seem overburdened right now.

  10. Hello Sir,
Overall the session was good except for a few technical problems. We can always learn and try to improve further.
Sir, I will like to know the details about the paper- Human Computer Interaction, like the syllabus, practicals, assignments etc.

Another thing is about the project work by the students. What kind of software projects do they design- real life projects for outside companies/ offices or dummy projects?
After graduation in computer science do the majority students go for PG or are absorbed by software industries there?

    Thank you,

    Regards,

    Neeta

  12. Sir
The discussion we had on Saturday was good. Specially the student assignments were really good . Do they use open source software’s for their regular practicals in the Computer Science labs ?

  13. Dear Sir,
Me commenting here would look out of the situation but i would go ahead and say that the teaching learning process in Computer Science department is very good and friendly one, which frankly speaking is lacking in other departments. There is a good rapport between the staff and the students and faculty is very encouraging. We get constant mentoring whenever and wherever needed. But improving upon would be always welcome in our endeavor to become the best. As Ian sir said, more effective use of C-LAAP would be one of the way and perhaps CS dept. can set an example for other departments on teaching learning initiatives.
