Weald and Downland Open Air Museum, Chichester
I visited Chichester, West Sussex by train from Brighton and the journey takes about fifty minutes to reach. The most interesting place to visit here is the Weald and Downland Open Air MuseumThe Museum is 40 years old and is located in north of Chichester, a distance of 10 kms. from the Chichester railway station. The open air museum has outstanding collections of historic buildings from the 13th to the 19th century in 40 acres of beautiful Sussex countryside. These buildings have been rescued from the destruction and are reconstructed based on the information available and the archaeological evidences. Here we can see the class room of 19th century, houses, grinding flour mill, implements used in blacksmithing, masonry and wood carving during good old days.
This reconstruction of a flint cottage is based on archaeological evidence from excavation of the deserted medieval village of Hangleton. The cottage was probably built in the 13th century and abandoned in the 14th century.
The other interesting site seeing places in Chichester are Chichester Cathedral,Chichester Festival Centre and Planetarium.
I am so glad that you went to Chichester, even tough it was cold and by the looks of it empty of people, it must have been a good trip.
ReplyDeleteNow that you have become a master of the train services, here is another idea for you; some years back Dr. Sankhalkar went to Exeter University which is also on the South Coast of UK. Maybe you can think of visiting Exeter which should take you no more than 3 hours, and ask Dr. Sankhalkar if she can put you in touch with some of her colleagues at Exeter.
I will post her this comment on an email separately. it would be a good thing for you to visit some other universities as well.
Thank you very much and I will visit Exeter university also.
ReplyDeleteA very beautiful theater, I hope they have tutors in Chichester too.
